I did a system restore to the day before Trinity's launch anyway, and took a peek in my C drive root directory. There is no boot file there, yet the computer starts fine. There is however a backup boot file in some other folder, as well as a boot file in the EVE folder (wtf CCP?).
boot.ini is a hidden and system file, by default these aren't shown.
If your computer boots up fine...you're ok.
I had myself set to view all files, hidden or not. It was not there.
Do you by any chance have Windows Vista? If yes boot.ini doesn't exist in Vista

Nope, I would not be in this thread if I did lol. This is just XP Home Edition SP2.
My laptop has XP Pro SP2 on it, and I have not updated EVE at all on that. I want to do a little experimenting, but I take it that the current patch file works properly since they keep talking specifically about "before 0400 GMT"? If the current patch does work fine then I can't experiment. :/
If you downloaded the patch after 4 GMT as CCP is saying in the first page you are pretty safe. They have corrected the typo in the patch and is working as intended now.

Originally by: Siri Blue I'Ve just got frakked by eve, warped into a mission, Eve froze, crashed, took my Video drivers with it, sent me to desktop and here I sit with 640x480 pixels a 4mbit colours! HORRID! I found a backup of my boot.ini and managed to patchwork me a new boot.ini my comp would accept... Alas...there is still the problem of that corrupt **** named Trinity patch on my Computer! How the hell do I get rid of this crap!?!?! Is there a small patch to fix the problem or do I have to download a completely new Eve client to be able to play securely again?!?!
IF THIS WAS A SINGLEPLAYER GAME I JUST BOUGHT; I'D BRING IT BACK AND INFORM "Verbraucherschutz" WHO WOULD PROLLY SUE THE DEVELOPER OF THIS *$&%*"*&º
This is not a problem related to boot.ini being deleted from the system.
Your system probably crashed because your settings can't be afforded by the graphics card you use.

1) I was using classic content graphics 2) After the crash I checked for my boot.ini and it was GONE 3) Had to recreate a boot.ini and after the successful booting up get my graphics back to work... The grpahics problem prolly was a problem on top...but I still had the boot.ini issue...
A game that kills my computer? Back to the shop and Customer protection lobby informed! I tell you!
Ok let's make it more clear.
Basically even with the classic content the way eve works has changed dramatically. No more your cpu is taking care of everything. In fact the graphics is responsibility of your GFX card (as it should be). If you hit ESC and go to graphics tab, you will notice that there are some new options that have to do with the graphics cache size.
The way now trinity engine works is the same for both classic and premium content.
The 2 problems i say again are not related. The boot.ini erase is not going to affect your graphics performance because it has nothing to do with that.

Okay, I cannot boot my computer up now, I get the boot.ini and the hll.dll error (or whatever it is). I do not have any Windows XP installation disks (since my computer came with the OS already installed), nor can I create any 3.5" floppy boot disks, since I don't have access to any computers that can write to 3.5" disks.
What do I do now?
Use a live cd from any Linux distro. Search this topic for how to create a boot.ini file using notepad. Do it and put it in C:\ (careful make sure that is the folder that you have your Windows folder in). Restart and pull out the live cd.
Most probably that is all you need.
